Rather Than Let Constance McMillen Bring a Lesbian to Prom

Constance McMillen, a student at Itawamba Agricultural High School said she’s catching more than prom fever.

A Mississippi school district cancelled a high school prom after a lesbian student demanded to wear a tuxedo to the event and bring her girlfriend.

In a memo that was sent to students on Feb. 5, the school district laid out the criterias for bringing a date to the prom.

Itawamba County Agricultural High School senior Constance McMillen decided to fight the archaic school policy which requires senior prom dates to be of the opposite s3x.

It is alleged that the district told McMillen that she was allowed to come to the dance but she and her girlfriend were not allowed to arrive together, she would not be allowed to wear a tuxedo, and that she and her girlfriend might be asked to leave if their presence made any of the other students “uncomfortable.”

It’s a brainless decision — the very type you’d think a school would be smart enough not to make. In announcing its decision, the school said in a statement, “Due to the distractions to the educational process caused by recent events, the Itawamba County School District has decided to not host a prom at Itawamba Agricultural High School this year.” In that same statement? They encouraged the community to organize its own private prom. The type that can freely bar the gays.

Meanwhile, rather than have the best interests of students at heart, Itawamba just made McMillen a bigger outcast than she might have already been; her peers are certainly going to blame her for ruining their prom. When, let’s face it, the only thing that ruins prom is sobriety.
